Susan Campbell Park

For a peaceful day out in Annapolis, Maryland, visit Susan Campbell Park located at Dock St, Annapolis, MD 21401. This waterfront park is located in the heart of the downtown Annapolis area. In the summer, the park is home to free concerts. You can catch these performances from 6:00 pm until dusk. Because the concerts are held outside, you’ll want to pack a blanket and folding chairs. Also, don’t forget to bring plenty of water. A great post

While the name Susan Campbell Park is appropriate for a park located at the end of Dock Street, it shouldn’t be confused with Susan B. Campbell Park, which was named after the first female U.S. Senator from Tennessee. During a recent meeting of the Annapolis City Council, Jane Chambliss, the sister of Susan Campbell, spoke in opposition to the park’s erroneous middle initial.

Robert Campbell, Susan Campbell’s father, is a former alderman and mayor pro tem in Annapolis, and was a local leader during the 1950s. He also was instrumental in transforming City Dock, once a shabby port, into a waterfront attraction. His plan included parking lots and a small park. In 2008, the City Dock underwent major renovations, which included the creation of Susan Campbell Park.  Next blog post

The park is a hidden gem, located right next to the docks. The area is small, but if you blink, you may miss it. A few bench seats overlook the bay and the city of Annapolis. The Maryland state house is nearby and regularly patrolled, making it safe to overnight in the park.
